Agartala, Oct 28: The Tripura BJP reviewed its strategy for the upcoming urban local body elections at a core committee meeting held at Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s official residence on Wednesday evening. The meeting focused on candidate selection, organisational preparations and the party’s response to the controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, state BJP president Abhishek Debroy and other senior leaders attended the meeting. State BJP in-charge Mriganka Deo Barman, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and former state BJP president Pratima Bhoumik were also present at the meeting, along with other core committee members. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rajib Bhattacharjee said the party held such organisational meetings periodically to review its preparations. He said the discussions covered the BJP’s strategy and role in the upcoming urban local body elections across Tripura. The candidate selection process was underway, and the party would announce its nominees after the election schedule was declared. State BJP president Abhishek Debroy said the party’s preparations were progressing and the candidate lists were ready for announcement. He alleged that opposition parties were attempting to create political unrest after failing to secure power through elections. Debroy also defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, describing it as a routine administrative process. He accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation about the exercise and said the BJP would organise a protest programme on October 31 to express its opposition to what he termed misleading campaigns over SIR. Meanwhile, former state BJP president Pratima Bhoumik said the meeting primarily focused on organisational matters. Asked about the municipal elections, she declined to share further details and said the public would receive information through the media. The BJP leadership said the party was preparing for the civic polls, although the election schedule had not been officially announced as of Wednesday.
