Agartala, November 1: The fourth edition of the Mr Tripura Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship–2026 will be held at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala on December 19 and 20, with the organisers doubling the total prize money to Rs 3 lakh this year to encourage bodybuilding and fitness athletes across the state.

Announcing the details at a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Sunday, Tripura Bodybuilding and Fitness Association president Tanay Das said the prize money had been increased from Rs 1.5 lakh in the previous edition to Rs 3 lakh this year, considering the high expenses involved in athletes’ training and competition preparation.

The championship will feature senior and junior bodybuilding, men’s physique and women’s model physique categories. A Masters category has also been introduced for the first time to provide an opportunity to veteran athletes aged 40 and above. Das said athletes in the age groups of 40, 50, 60 and 70 would get an opportunity to compete, adding that several former bodybuilders in the state continued to practise fitness but lacked a platform to showcase their abilities.

According to the association, the senior bodybuilding section will have six groups, while the junior section will have four groups. Men’s physique will feature three groups, compared to two in the previous edition. Women’s model physique will have an open category, alongside a separate Masters category.

Das said the association had organised district-level bodybuilding and fitness championships across the state during June and July this year. Athletes interested in participating in the state championship have been asked to complete their registration through their respective district officials by November 22. The registration fee will remain unchanged at Rs 500.

Cash prizes will be awarded to gold medal winners in the respective categories, while the overall champions will also receive cash awards. The detailed prize distribution will be announced later, Das said.

The association will invite Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu to inaugurate the championship. Sports Minister Tinku Roy and Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury will also be invited to attend the event. Das expressed hope that the Governor would attend the inaugural programme.

The association has been organising the state-level championship to provide a platform for bodybuilding and physique sports athletes from different districts. The previous edition, held at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala in December 2025, reportedly saw participation from more than 170 athletes. This year’s edition is expected to build on that participation, with increased prize money and the introduction of the Masters category.
