Agartala, Oct 29: A collaboration between IHFC at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, is creating new opportunities for young people in the state to acquire skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Ankit Kishore Sen, a researcher, inventor, entrepreneur and IIT Delhi alumnus from Tripura, has played a key role in bringing the initiative forward.

The collaboration took shape with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations in November 2025. The programme was inaugurated in February 2026, and several batches of students have since completed their training, while additional batches are currently undergoing the programme.

The initiative aims to expand access to AI education and practical skill development in Tripura. By bringing together a technology institution and the state government’s skill development machinery, the programme seeks to help young people gain knowledge of emerging technologies and prepare for opportunities in the technology sector.

The partnership has also created opportunities for students to gain professional exposure. IHFC, IIT Delhi, has extended internship offers to students from Tripura, providing a potential pathway from skill-based training to further experience in technology and innovation.

Sen sees the initiative as part of a larger plan to develop an AI ecosystem across the Northeast. His proposed Northeast AI Mission envisions wider access to AI education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, with opportunities for young people to develop industry-relevant skills and participate in India’s expanding technology sector.

Sen’s recent work has also included research in brain signal processing and educational technology. In an earlier research demonstration, he showcased an EEG-based method for locating active neural sources in real time during a human movement experiment. The work, conducted as part of his MS (Research) thesis at IIT Delhi under Prof. Lalan Kumar, used the Head Harmonics-based MUSIC technique to estimate the location of brain activity from signals recorded through scalp-mounted sensors.

In the field of education, Sen has developed more than 100 multilingual, voice-enabled educational tools within a single year, according to information shared about his work. These initiatives reflect his interest in making technology and learning tools accessible to people across different language backgrounds.

Expressing his appreciation for the collaboration, Sen thanked IHFC, IIT Delhi, and the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, for supporting AI skilling opportunities for the state’s youth.

The initiative highlights how cooperation between higher education and technology institutions and state governments can help extend emerging technology training beyond major urban centres. If expanded across the region, such collaborations could contribute to Sen’s broader goal of building a stronger AI ecosystem in Northeast India.
