Agartala, Oct 26: The Tripura Pradesh BJP staged a protest rally in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala on Monday, condemning alleged derogatory remarks by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father.

Addressing the gathering, BJP general secretary Bhagaban Das accused the Congress and Left parties of attempting to regain public support through divisive politics. He urged party workers to remain alert against what he described as attempts to disturb the country’s peace, unity and economic progress.

“Every BJP worker must remain alert and keep their eyes and ears open. There are attempts to disturb the peace of the country and undermine its unity, culture and economic progress,” Das said.

Criticising the political understanding between the Congress and Left parties, Das described the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as an offshoot of forces opposed to the BJP. He also referred to protests in Delhi, alleging that some participants were drawing inspiration from political developments in Bangladesh and advocating disruptive activities in India.

BJP leaders also criticised the Congress and the CPI(M) over their political positions, arguing that political differences should not lead to personal attacks or disrespectful remarks about family members.

The rally was attended by BJP MLAs Bhagaban Das, Dipak Majumder and Mina Rani Sarkar, Sadar Town District BJP president Asim Bhattacharya, presidents of seven mandals and other party workers.

The programme served as a platform for the state BJP to register its protest against the alleged remarks and voice its criticism of the opposition parties.
