Agartala, October 28: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party and a royal scion of Tripura, said on Tuesday evening that his decision to step away from active politics would not prevent him from standing up for the people of the state and their identity. In a Facebook Live address, Debbarma referred to the Lalsanjit Reang controversy and said he would continue to speak out whenever Tripura’s dignity and the interests of its people were at stake. He stressed that standing up for one’s community and state did not require holding a political position.

Speaking about the Tiprasa Accord, Debbarma said he remained closely involved in its implementation and negotiations. He called for peaceful coexistence between Tiprasas and Bengalis, emphasising that the rights of both communities should be protected without creating conflict.

He also urged people to rise above political divisions and focus on employment, education, healthcare and development. Referring to the response to the Lalsanjit Riyang controversy, he said the unity displayed by indigenous Tiprasas and Bengalis should extend to other issues affecting the state’s future.

Beyond politics, Debbarma appealed to people to support local talent and entrepreneurship. He highlighted the upcoming Kokborok film Khani, singer Toya Debbarma and young entrepreneurs developing local businesses, including Animesh Debbarma’s chicken pickle venture, Eat from Tripura.

He also spoke about mental health, gratitude and kindness, urging people to help others regardless of religion, community or political affiliation. He encouraged young people working outside Tripura to stay connected with their families and make time for their loved ones.

Calling for greater unity across the state, Debbarma said political rivalry and community divisions should not overshadow shared concerns such as development and the future of the next generation.

“I have left politics, but I have not left you,” he said, reiterating his commitment to the people of Tripura.
