Agartala, October 26: Suji and maida have reached all ration shops across Tripura, while sugar is expected to arrive within the next one to two days, Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Sunday.
The minister made the announcement after holding a virtual meeting with all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to review the distribution of free festive ration items. He assured beneficiaries that everyone would receive the items before Kali Puja.
Clarifying concerns over the distribution schedule, Chowdhury said the free ration initiative was intended for the entire festive period covering October and November, and not exclusively for Lakshmi Puja. The festive season includes Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Diwali and Bhratri Dwitiya.
The minister said the three items—suji, maida and sugar—would be distributed free of cost as a one-time benefit during the October–November period. He added that beneficiaries could collect the items by November, regardless of whether they received them in October or November.
Chowdhury reiterated that the government was committed to ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries received the festive ration before Kali Puja.
