Only green crackers or reduced-emission firecrackers approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation are permitted for sale and use. The advisory bans firecrackers containing hazardous chemical substances such as barium salts, strontium chromate, lithium, arsenic, antimony, lead, and mercury, as well as joined crackers and those exceeding specific noise level limits.
Bursting permitted firecrackers is restricted to 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Diwali and other festivals like Gurpurab, and from 11.55 p.m. to 12.30 a.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Fireworks are strictly prohibited within 100 metres of silence zones including hospitals, healthcare centres, educational institutions, courts, and religious places.
E-commerce platforms are barred from processing orders or delivering firecrackers within the jurisdiction, and only licensed traders with valid permits may sell permitted green crackers. The advisory directs officers-in-charge to conduct regular inspections and warns that violators will face legal penalties.
