Agartala, Nov 4: Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) on Wednesday announced plans to strengthen its organisational base in Tripura and mobilise youths to raise various issues concerning the state at a press conference held at Agartala Press Club.

CJP leaders Shahid and Noor Shah from Manipur attended the press conference along with Tripura representatives Shubham, Pranab and Aprajit and other volunteers.

Shahid said discussions were underway with volunteers across Tripura and other northeastern states to expand the organisation at the grassroots level. He said unemployment, healthcare, education and electricity-related issues would be among its key areas of focus, along with students’ demands.

He clarified that CJP would function as a non-political pressure group without any affiliation with political parties. He said any government, irrespective of the party in power, must follow the Constitution and remain accountable to the people.

Tripura representative Shubham said the initiative aimed to bring young people together to highlight problems affecting the state and work towards its development.

The leaders also raised concerns over alleged horse-trading and defections of MLAs since 2014, claiming that such practices weaken democratic institutions. They called for electoral reforms and protection of voting rights and other democratic rights.

Shahid said the organisational structure and future action plan of the Tripura unit would be finalised and announced within the next few days.
